Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus announced that the government plans to implement key labor reforms to attract foreign investment into Bangladesh's manufacturing sector.
He shared these plans during a meeting with former British Prime Minister Theresa May on the sidelines of the COP29 climate conference in Baku.
“The labor issue is one of our top priorities. We want to address all labor-related concerns,” Yunus told May, highlighting recent developments in Bangladesh.
In response, May expressed interest in collaborating on these issues and raised concerns about human trafficking and migration.
Yunus emphasized the importance of expanding legal migration channels to Europe for Bangladeshi workers to help curb irregular migration and reduce the risks of human trafficking.
During the meeting, Yunus also presented May with a copy of The Art of Triumph, a book featuring graffiti and murals created by Bangladeshi youth during the recent July-August revolution.
The meeting was attended by Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi, Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed, and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Turkey and Azerbaijan, M Anamul Haq.
