The Interim Government's Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has visited the "Aynaghar" (Mirror House) alongside representatives from both domestic and international media. This visit comes amid ongoing concerns regarding past incidents of enforced disappearances and human rights violations. On Wednesday (February 12), the Chief Advisor’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary, Fayez Ahmed, officially confirmed the visit, highlighting its significance in ensuring transparency and accountability.
The decision for the Chief Advisor to visit Aynaghar was made during a meeting of the Advisory Council on Thursday (February 6), as previously stated by the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing. The visit is seen as a response to growing demands for an impartial review of sites historically linked to interrogation and detention practices.
Notably, on January 19, the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing reported that the Commission on Enforced Disappearances had held a meeting with the Chief Advisor, where they briefed him on the progress of ongoing investigations. During the meeting, it was revealed that detainees were previously held at a facility known as the Joint Interrogation Cell, commonly referred to as "Aynaghar." The commission emphasized the importance of a firsthand inspection of such locations to better understand their historical context and assess any remaining evidence related to past incidents.
