Without constructing the model mosque of Madaripur Sadar Upazila, the contractor company has lost a bill of 1 crore 28 lakh taka. According to the rules, the construction of the mosque was not completed even after five years, although the work was supposed to be completed within one year. Locals said that the contractor has picked up the bill only for piling work. The Islamic Foundation said the construction work is being delayed due to complications in locating the site.
Local worshipers have expressed anger at this situation. Musalli Rafiqul Islam Bhuiyan said, "Even though model mosques have been inaugurated in different parts of the country, there is no visible activity in our Sadar Upazila. We are not able to pray in modern mosques because of this."
Madaripur Executive Engineer of the Department of Public Works. Shahriar Hossain said that instructions have been received to build a mosque at the previous location. The previous contracting firm said it would not work. Therefore, the construction work of the model mosque will start soon after appointing a new contractor.
