The Home Affairs Advisor, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has stated that the interim government does not wish to take any action or adopt a harsh stance against students. He made this statement on Tuesday at around 11 AM during his visit to inspect the embankment of Matiyan Haor in Shahganj, Shreepur, Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj.
The Advisor mentioned, “The government and we do not want to take any action or be harsh against the students. They are our children, some are brothers, some are sisters. They have the right to voice their legitimate demands.”
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury suggested that instead of taking to the streets, students could engage in discussions to express their concerns. He said, “They can come to Suhrawardy Udyan and express their frustration. Student representatives can come and talk to us. If there are issues between one college and another, student representatives and teachers can sit down and discuss them.”
He further added, “We do not want students to protest. Before they start their movement, we want them to sit down with us for a discussion. If no solution is found, then they can go ahead with their protests.”
The Home Affairs Advisor urged students not to take to the streets, saying, “Please discuss your demands. We do not want to be harsh. If we become harsh, you will accuse us of becoming like the previous government. We do not want to use lethal weapons like the previous government did. We want to resolve matters through dialogue.”
