BNP's health affairs secretary Dr. Rofiqul Islam stated that the party has been engaged in protests for the past one and a half decades. He highlighted that during these movements, some individuals have faced injuries or have been victims of attacks and legal actions. However, those responsible for these misdeeds have not all been arrested.
He emphasized that the bloodshed has not yet dried, and the judicial process has not commenced. Therefore, he urged the government to expedite the trial of the murderers. He asserted that without justice for the slain, their souls will not find peace, and the nation will suffer as a result.
On Monday, while visiting the National Heart Institute to inquire about the health of Parvez Hossain Saif, the vice-president of the student wing of Titumir College, he shared these sentiments with reporters. Saif has been hospitalized for a long time due to heart issues and is scheduled for bypass surgery in the coming days. BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has taken full responsibility for his treatment after learning about his serious condition. Dr. Rofiqul Islam has been regularly monitoring Saif's treatment and providing financial assistance for his medical expenses.
Dr. Rofiqul stated, “No reform efforts should be hindered under the pretext of the constitution. Revolutions around the world have never occurred within constitutional frameworks, and the same holds true for the July-August student movements in Bangladesh.” He further commented that Sheikh Hasina has fled the country, but conspiracies remain. He alleged that she is orchestrating plots against the nation from abroad and urged the public to stay vigilant against such schemes. He accused the current Awami League government of embezzling vast sums of money, which they are now using to conspire against the country and its people. He called for national unity, emphasizing that the foundation should be the popular revolution of ’24, and all political parties must unite to rebuild the nation.
It is noteworthy that Parvez was admitted in March of this year and underwent a stent placement for blood circulation issues. During that time, Tarique Rahman also covered his medical expenses.
