Six suspects in the murder of Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Saiful Islam in Chattogram have been identified through video footage.
This information was shared on Wednesday in a Facebook post by the Office of the Chief Adviser. The post stated that the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) had detained at least six individuals in connection with the murder, identifying them through video footage. Additionally, 21 people were detained on Tuesday on charges of vandalism and attacking police during the clashes. On the same day, six members of the Awami League and the banned Chhatra League were arrested in the port city with explosives.
APP Saiful Islam was hacked to death during clashes between law enforcement officers and lawyers on Tuesday. The president of the Chattogram District Bar Association, Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, claimed that protesters attacked and killed him.
In response, various political parties and organizations have demanded a proper investigation and justice for the murder. They also urged everyone to remain calm and act with restraint.
Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus condemned the killing and directed an appropriate investigation and legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the CMP reported that 30 more individuals have been detained in connection with the attack on law enforcement and the murder of Saiful Islam. They were apprehended during a joint operation in the city’s Kotwali area on Tuesday night.
