In the midst of intense discussions and criticism on social media in Bangladesh over a video showing "Islamic songs" being performed on stage at a Puja pavilion, the Chattogram Metropolitan Puja Celebration Council has expelled a leader of the Puja committee.
A letter signed by the organization’s President Ashish Bhattacharya and General Secretary Hillol Sen announced the expulsion. Sajal Dutta, the Joint General Secretary of the Puja committee, was expelled for inviting Chattogram Cultural Academy to perform at the Puja pavilion.
The statement further mentioned that Sajal Dutta provided the opportunity to the group named "Chattogram Cultural Academy" to perform on the cultural stage organized by the Metropolitan Puja Celebration Council. Subsequently, six young men from the group performed Islamic songs on stage without musical instruments.
Following the incident, the police detained two of the six members of the performing group for questioning. In a later press conference, the police stated that "they performed there at the invitation of a leader from the Puja Celebration Committee."
