Sohanur Rahman Sohan, a passenger, wrote in a metro rail community group, "People going out for fun don’t care about any rules, especially on holidays. The metro has recently reached extreme levels of filth. Some couples behave in such a way that regular people feel embarrassed."
He added, "Today, I boarded the metro at Mirpur-11 at 4:30 PM. I saw a couple sitting on a seat. The girl was wearing a sari, but it was draped so poorly that I had to push through the crowd to stand far away. Meanwhile, the couple started cuddling. The girl was literally lying on the boy, and he kept kissing and hugging her. Right next to them was a family—a father, mother, and their 7-8-year-old son. The family looked uncomfortable, so a gentleman had to scold the couple, asking them to sit properly. The girl then started arguing with the man. Only when a nearby woman and some others protested did they quiet down."
Upon reaching Farmgate, Sohan further saw, "On the stairs, another couple was practically clinging to each other, blocking half the stairway while chatting. Hey, if you want to romance, go to your room. If you're not married, go to a couple's restaurant. If you’re on a budget, at least go hide in the Kashban area, but leave the metro alone. This is public transport, not your place for romance."
Some people commented, "Today I cursed them." Others mentioned protesting. Some lamented, "The population has increased, but people haven't evolved." Others said, "They should be photographed and exposed on Facebook." One person commented, "They’ve started doing this after watching videos of metro systems in Delhi, New York, and Europe. Next, they’ll play music and find new ways to seek attention."
Sultan commented, "This is what happens when people become overly modern." However, Sabbir Hossain commented, "Love is divine." MH Sakib wrote, "Indecency is reaching new heights, and people are losing their sense of shame day by day."
Rahat wrote, "If you speak up, they'll come at you angrily! Who are you to decide? Is cuddling and kissing prohibited by law in this country? You may not like it, but just ignore it. Who are you to tell others to restrain themselves?"
Shabbir Ahmad Palash wrote, "There needs to be an announcement—Please do not cuddle. For safety purposes, this is being recorded. A fine of 500 taka will be imposed for cuddling."
Khalid Hasan Asif wrote, "Instead of paying attention to your surroundings on the metro, focus on your phone, read a book, or think about life. You'll be happier."
Saif Khondaker wrote, "It’s becoming more common to see boyfriends using 'protection from other men' as an excuse to cling to their girlfriends in public. I haven’t brought this up on any platform before because I thought I was just being paranoid."
Sumon wrote, "In line to buy tickets, one person stands while the other hugs from behind or beside. Sometimes, they touch each other. If you say anything, they become defensive. This generation has reached the peak of indecency. Their parents are to blame for this."
SK Lopa wrote, "Agreed. We should all unite and protest. If someone speaks up, we should support them, so these ill-mannered children from indecent families don’t have the courage to continue. Let’s stand together.
