Information Advisor Mohammad Nahid Islam has stated that days deemed insignificant and identified solely as Awami League party days have been canceled. He provided this information during a briefing at the Secretariat on Wednesday (October 16).
Nahid mentioned that discussions are ongoing about whether August 5 should be included as a new day reflecting the spirit of the mass uprising. He noted that many individuals, alongside the Father of the Nation, made significant contributions during the Great Liberation War, citing that the Awami League has denied Maulana Bhashani's contributions.
He further remarked that the Awami League has tarnished Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's reputation and emphasized that while the March 7 speech holds significance, it cannot be designated as a national day. He commented that the people of the country do not recognize Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the Father of the Nation.
Earlier this morning, a verified Facebook page of the Chief Advisor of the interim government announced eight days that are set to be canceled, five of which relate to the birth and death of members of Sheikh Hasina's family.
These include: March 17 (the birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day), August 5 (the anniversary of Captain Sheikh Kamal's birth), August 8 (the anniversary of Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib's birth), August 15 (the anniversary of Bangabandhu's death and National Mourning Day), and October 18 (Sheikh Russell Day).
Additionally, the canceled list includes the historic March 7, November 4 (National Constitution Day), and December 12 (Smart Bangladesh Day).
