The Bangladesh Bank has urged customers not to withdraw funds from banks unless necessary. This appeal was made during a press conference held at the central bank’s conference room on Wednesday. Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Husne Ara Shikha stated that some customers are withdrawing deposits unnecessarily and moving them to other banks, causing liquidity issues for certain banks. She said, “We urge all depositors not to withdraw more money than they need. We are working to restore confidence.”
The spokesperson further informed that to bring stability to the banking sector, Bangladesh Bank has provided liquidity support of Tk 5,585 crore over the past month and a half. Additionally, the boards of 11 banks have been restructured, with work underway for another four banks. She also mentioned that the central bank has taken necessary measures to bring change to troubled banks.
Regarding inflation control, Husne Ara Shikha stated that inflation has decreased after an increase in policy interest rates. She expressed hope that if this trend continues, inflation could drop to around 6 percent in the next six months.
