Some temporary workers of Bangladesh Railways have blocked the railway line in Tejgaon, Dhaka, demanding unpaid wages. They have been protesting there since 10:45 AM on Tuesday, resulting in the suspension of rail communication between the capital and the northern and eastern regions.
These temporary workers have blocked the railway line with three main demands: the payment of five months' overdue wages, the payment of salaries to all workers, and an increase in wages due to rising commodity prices. It is important to note that these temporary workers (TLR) are paid on a daily basis and are not official railway employees. They have been working in various capacities within the railway's departments, including porters, gatekeepers (traffic/engineering), loaders, waymen, office assistants, and waiting room caretakers for an extended period.
Regarding the blockade by the temporary workers, sources from Bangladesh Railways have stated that they are trying to resolve the situation and lift the blockade.
