The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has lodged a case against 16 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and five members of her family, accusing them of corruption in securing allocations for 60-katha plots at the Purbachal New Town Project of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).

On Sunday, January 12, ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development, stating that besides Sheikh Hasina, the accused include her sister Sheikh Rehana, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, the Housing and Public Works Secretary, and several Rajuk officials. The case was filed by ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya at the Dhaka Coordinated District Office of the ACC.

The accused are: Sheikh Hasina, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, Housing and Public Works Secretary Md Shahid Ullah Khondker, Additional Secretary (Admn) Kazi Wasi Uddin, Administrative Officer Md Saiful Islam Sarker, Senior Assistant Secretary Purobi Golder, former Rajuk Chairman Md Anisur Rahman Mia, former Member (Estate and Land) Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Member (Admn and Finance) Kabir Al Asad, Member (Development Control) Tonmoy Das, former Member (Planning) Mohammad Nasir Uddin, former Member Maj (Engr) Shamsuddin Ahmad Chowdhury (Retd), Director (Estate and Land-2) Sheikh Shahinul Islam, and Deputy Directors Md Hafizur Rahman and Habibur Rahman.

According to ACC sources, Sheikh Hasina covertly secured plots for herself and her family members in the Rajuk Purbachal New Town Project. Her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana’s two children each reportedly received a 10-katha plot, totaling 60 kathas of land.

The allocations were allegedly made in 2022 and kept highly confidential. Sources revealed that Sheikh Hasina misused her position to secure these plots through irregularities and collusion with senior Rajuk officials.

The plots, situated in the exclusive diplomatic zone of Purbachal’s Sector 27, were allocated in the names of Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana's children, Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby and Azmina Siddiq Rupanti.

As per the final allocation letter signed by Naib Ali Sharif, Rajuk's Deputy Director (Estate and Land-3), the price of one katha was set at Tk3 lakh, making a 10-katha plot worth Tk30 lakh. Sheikh Hasina’s allocation letter for plot No-9 on Road No-203 in Sector-27 was issued on August 3, 2022.

Her son Joy and daughter Saima were also allocated plots, numbered 015 and 017, respectively. Joy’s allocation letter was issued on October 24, 2022, with ownership registration completed on November 10, while Saima’s allocation letter, signed by Deputy Director Habibur Rahman, was issued on November 2, 2022.

Sheikh Rehana and her children were also granted plots in the same area, with plot numbers 013, 011, and 019 allocated to Rehana, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, and Azmina Siddiq Rupanti, respectively.
