The clock struck 9:00 AM. The judge of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court exited his chamber and entered the courtroom.
Right in front of the judge was the defendants' dock. Standing there were Salman F. Rahman, advisor to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Anisul Haque, Rashed Khan Menon, and Shajahan Khan, state minister Kamal Ahmed Majumder, junior minister Junaid Ahmed Palak, and deputy minister Abdullah Al Islam Jakob. Each of them had handcuffs on their left hand.
As the morning hearing began, a police officer called out, "Mr. Abdullah Al Islam Jakob." Jakob raised his right hand in response from the dock. The prosecution informed the court that Jakob was an accused in a murder case involving Shamim Hawladar, who was killed during an anti-discrimination student movement in Rupnagar, Dhaka. They argued that taking him into remand was necessary for further investigation.
Jakob’s lawyer opposed the remand request. Speaking on his own behalf, Jakob stated that he had never been to Rupnagar in Dhaka and that the case was baseless. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge granted a three-day remand for Jakob.
In the subsequent hearing, the court learned about Anisul’s involvement in the murder of Fazlul Karim, a young man killed during a student and public uprising in Uttara. Despite objections from Anisul’s lawyer, the court granted a five-day remand for him. Anisul stood in the dock with a dejected expression.
Hearings for other accused individuals proceeded afterward. At one point, a brief conversation took place between Dipu Moni and Salman F. Rahman.
After approximately 45 minutes of hearings, the judge left the courtroom. The police then put helmets on the accused and escorted them to the court's detention area. The entire court premises were under tight security.
