Hindu community leaders gathered at Chittagong's Laldighi ground yesterday to voice concerns over recent attacks on minority communities and present an eight-point demand to the government. The Bangladesh Sanatan Jagoron Moncho, which has been protesting for over two months, called for legal protection, compensation, and action against minority repression following the change in government on August 5.
Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the platform and principal of Pundarik Dham, stated: "The more we are tortured, the more united we become. This unity is the unity of the culture of Bengal since the independence of Bangladesh. This unity cannot be broken in any way."
The demands include establishing speedy trial tribunals, enacting a Minority Protection Act, creating a separate ministry for minorities, recovering vested property, and ensuring proportional representation in Parliament. The platform also announced plans for mass rallies in every division, followed by a long march to Dhaka. Other speakers at the rally included Tapnanda Giri Maharaj, Ravishwarananda Puri Maharaj, as well as journalists, lawyers, and teachers.
