Players retained by IPL franchises before the auction.
There is a possibility of a mega auction for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in November. However, the organizers have not officially announced anything yet. Additionally, the league authorities are discussing several rule changes before the auction.
This time, there will be a full auction for the IPL. All 10 teams will build new squads. The entire process will last two days. Initially, BCCI officials considered Dubai as the venue for the auction, given the popularity of Indian cricket there. Later, the board thought of two cities in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, franchises are competing to retain players before the auction. Teams are making various plans about who to retain and who to release. The teams have already published preliminary lists.
By October 31, franchises must submit their list of retained players. For this, teams are making lists of their preferred cricketers.
Before this auction, teams can retain a maximum of six players. Among them, at least one must be a domestic cricketer. Teams can also choose to retain fewer than six players and use the Right to Match card during the auction to bring back others.
Players who retired from international cricket five years ago will be considered domestic players. There are no restrictions on the number of domestic or overseas players a team can retain.
If any team retains a player as their first choice, they will have to pay INR 18 crore. For the second choice, they must pay INR 14 crore, and for the third choice, INR 11 crore. If a player is retained as the fourth choice, they will also cost INR 18 crore. The fifth choice will cost INR 14 crore, while domestic cricketers will be retained for INR 4 crore.
