Just two days after Bangladesh stepped into women’s first-class cricket, Nigar Sultana etched her name in history by becoming the country's first centurion in this format. Today, at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi, Nigar, playing for Central Zone, scored an unbeaten 153 against North Zone in their first innings of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL).
Starting the day unbeaten on 85, Nigar reached her century in the morning with a single off Jannatul Ferdous, taking 215 balls to achieve the milestone. Batting at number three, she crafted her innings with 20 boundaries and 2 sixes, remaining not out by the end.
The opening two days of the BCL saw several other batters come close to centuries. North Zone's Farzana Hoque was dismissed for 86 on the first day, while Sharmin Akhter from East Zone, who recently made a stellar comeback to the national team with a 96-run innings in an ODI against Ireland, scored 88 runs on the first day. Additionally, in the South Zone vs. East Zone match at the Bangla Track Cricket Academy ground in Rajshahi, Ayasha Rahman of South Zone fell just short, getting out for 94.
