Paris Saint-Germain supporters displayed a "Free Palestine" banner at the Parc des Princes stadium before their Champions League match against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday. Fans in the Auteuil Kop section unveiled the banner, which featured the message "War on the pitch, but peace in the world." During the match, supporters showed another banner asking, "Does a child's life in Gaza mean less than another?"
PSG responded in a statement, saying they were unaware of plans to display such messages. "Paris St Germain recalls that the Parc des Princes is—and must remain—a place of communion around a common passion for soccer and firmly opposes any message of a political nature in its stadium," the club stated. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau called the banner display "unacceptable" and said he would "demand explanations from PSG." The incident occurs eight days before France's match against Israel at the Stade de France.
