BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's advisor and former Member of Parliament (MP) Begum Rozi Kabir has passed away. She died on Wednesday (November 13) morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka. She had been suffering from liver-related illness for a long time. She was 73 years old. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, and numerous admirers.
Begum Rozi Kabir served as the President of the Nationalist Women's Party, Chittagong City Committee, Senior Vice President of the Metropolitan BNP, and held various editorial positions in the central committee of BNP. She was elected MP three times from the reserved women's seat. Rozi Kabir was born into the renowned zamindar family of Azgar Ali Chowdhury in North Halishahar, Chittagong. Her elder brother, former Deputy Speaker and Planning Minister Barrister Sultan Ahmed, played a key role in guiding her into politics.
She accompanied former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on state visits to Thailand, China, India, Sri Lanka, Denmark, the United States, and the United Kingdom. She also represented Bangladesh at important conferences such as the United Nations General Assembly, BIMSTEC, and SAARC.
In her political career, she served as the Senior Vice President of Chittagong City BNP, held various positions in BNP’s central committee, and worked as a special assistant to the BNP Chairperson.
