In protest of three demands, including the transfer of the second campus project to the military, students at Jagannath University have declared an all-out shutdown by locking the main gate of the university and holding a mass hunger strike.
On Monday morning, students were seen locking the main gate of the university. They also locked the gates of various buildings, including the Shaheed Sajid Building and the Science Building, and began their hunger strike in front of them.
Students from various departments, such as Botany, Social Work, Political Science, Chemistry, CSE, Physics, Marketing, Management Studies, Accounting and Information Systems, History, IR, Pharmacy, Mathematics, Land Management and Law, Mass Communication and Journalism, Bengali, and Mathematics, expressed solidarity with the shutdown by locking the gates of their respective department offices.
As a result of the locked main gate, no vehicles can enter the campus. However, a pocket gate has been kept open for the movement of general students.
Earlier, on Sunday morning, students began the hunger strike demanding three main points. Later that night, 14 students became ill during the strike and were admitted to the hospital. Despite assurances from the Vice-Chancellor and the Treasurer, the students did not end their hunger strike.
