In the murder case of Harshita Brel, an Indian-origin woman, the finger of suspicion has been pointed at her husband, Pankaj Lamba. The news was reported by Indian media NDTV on Wednesday (November 20).
On November 14, London police discovered a body inside a parked car on Brisbane Road in Ilford, East London. The body was identified as that of 24-year-old Harshita Brel, from India.
Harshita, who was born in Delhi, had married a young man named Pankaj Lamba in August of the previous year, and moved to the UK in April this year.
A few days ago, Harshita had gone missing from her home in Northamptonshire. The post-mortem revealed that she had been strangled to death.
Chief Inspector Paul Cash, who is leading the investigation into the murder, has stated that a special team of 60 detectives is working on the case. In addition to reviewing CCTV footage, house-to-house searches are being conducted, and automatic number plate recognition systems are being used.
According to the police, Harshita was likely murdered by her husband, Pankaj (23), who fled the country immediately after the crime. North Hampshire police believe that Harshita was murdered by her husband earlier this month, and the body was transported 145 kilometers south to Ilford after the killing.
According to NDTV, Harshita's father, mother, and sister live in Delhi, and they have called for justice for her murder. Her mother, Sudesh Kumari, stated, "I want justice for my daughter’s murder."
Harshita’s father, Satbir Brela, told the BBC, "I want action to be taken against my son-in-law. He used to complain that Harshita would not serve food on time, and he was also irritated when she spoke to her mother on the phone."
Harshita’s sister, Sonia Dabas, mentioned, "The marriage was arranged, and my sister was really excited to live in London. But the marriage was not a happy one."
