The chief pathologist responsible for conducting the autopsy on Yahya Sinwar, a senior Hamas leader, revealed the cause of death following Sinwar’s killing by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Dr. Kugel, who performed the autopsy, stated that Sinwar was killed by a gunshot wound to the head, despite also suffering missile injuries and shrapnel wounds to other parts of his body, including severe chest trauma.  

The Israeli military reported that Sinwar was fatally struck during a tank shelling incident following an exchange of gunfire. Dr. Kugel confirmed that Sinwar’s left index finger had been cut and sent for DNA analysis to confirm his identity. The DNA profile matched Sinwar’s record from his time as an Israeli prisoner, finalizing the identification process.  

Images of Sinwar’s body, discovered in the rubble, circulated, showing injuries consistent with the autopsy report. Dr. Kugel emphasized that his conclusions were reached independently, prior to receiving any official account from the Israeli military.
