Eight Officials, Including Former Police Chief Abdullah Al-Mamun, Arrested in Connection with Genocide Case of July-August
Eight officials, including former police chief Abdullah Al-Mamun, have been arrested in connection with the genocide case of July-August. Today (Wednesday), a hearing on their case is underway in a three-member tribunal led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Mohammad Golam Mortuza Majumdar.
Earlier, the eight officials were brought to the tribunal in a prison van. Those presented include— former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Director General of NTMCI Major General (Retd) Ziaul Ahsan, former Police Superintendent of Dhaka district Mohammad Abdullah Al Kafi, former DC of DMP Mohammad Jasim Uddin Molla, former Additional Superintendent of Dhaka (Savar Circle) Mohammad Shahidur Islam, former OC of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan, former OC of Gulshan Police Station Mazharul Haque, and former Inspector of Dhaka North DB Mohammad Arafat Hossain.
It is notable that on October 27, the three-member tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Mohammad Golam Mortuza Majumdar, approved the prosecution’s request and directed the arrest and presentation of these eight officials. Arrest warrants were issued for 17 former police officers involved in a case of crimes against humanity, and those arrested will be brought before the tribunal.
