In the student-led uprising, former Mirpur DC (Deputy Commissioner) Jasim Uddin, who was wanted under an arrest warrant, has been apprehended in Rangpur. This marks the first arrest of an individual by the police in this context.
On Wednesday (October 30), Jasim Uddin's lawyer, Kazi Eliasur Rahman, confirmed this information.
It has been reported that Jasim Uddin is being taken to the tribunal from Rangpur. He faces allegations of murdering 150 people.
Advocate Abdullah Al Noman, the prosecutor for the tribunal, stated that Jasim has been arrested in connection with the mass murder case from July. He will be presented in the tribunal on Wednesday (October 30).
On August 13, a separate notification signed by Deputy Secretary Md. Mahbub Rahman Sheikh, issued on the President's order, had assigned Jasim Uddin to the DIG office in the Rangpur range.
Previously, on October 17, arrest warrants were issued against 46 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina. Additionally, on October 27, the tribunal instructed that 20 individuals arrested in various cases be presented. Fourteen former ministers, including Anisul Haque, Abdur Razzak, Dipu Moni, and Faruk Khan, have been ordered to appear on November 18. Furthermore, former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun and former army officer Ziaul Ahsan, along with six others, have been summoned to appear on November 20.
On the same day, arrest warrants were also issued against 17 police officers, including former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman.
