The Dhaka-based animal welfare organization 'Dhakastho Shommilito Prani Rakkha Parishad' has stepped forward to address the food crisis affecting dogs on Saint Martin's Island. On Sunday, an 11-member delegation from the organization traveled to the island via Shahpari Island jetty with 5,000 eggs, 3,000 kg of dog food, chicken meat, rice, lentils, and medical supplies for 200 dogs.
Saint Martin Union Council Chairman Mujibur Rahman reports that the island has approximately 4,000 dogs, and nearly a hundred have already died from starvation due to decreased tourist numbers. "The dogs used to depend on food left behind by tourists. However, with limited tourists, both humans and animals have fallen into crisis," he said.
