An investigation commission has been set up to probe the true causes of the 2009 Pilkhana massacre.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus approved the formation of the commission on the night of December 22, according to Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
The commission, consisting of seven members, was announced by the adviser during an event marking BGB Day at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka, on December 23. He also mentioned that a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, requesting necessary actions to contact India for the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina under the extradition treaty.
Furthermore, the advisor reaffirmed that Bangladesh’s stance on preventing Rohingya infiltration remains unchanged.
"We will not allow any Rohingyas to enter the country under any circumstances. Only those who are sick are being provided shelter on humanitarian grounds," he added.
On February 25-26, 2009, hundreds of BDR personnel revolted during a three-day "BDR Week" at Pilkhana, leading to the brutal killing of 74 people, including 57 army officers, at the headquarters of the paramilitary force. Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) was later renamed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
