Awami League advisory council member and former minister Amir Hossain Amu has been sent to jail after remand in connection with the murder case of businessman Abdul Wadud in the New Market area of the capital. On Tuesday morning (November 12), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman rejected his bail application after a hearing and ordered his imprisonment.
After the six-day remand, the police presented him in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka. During the hearing, the investigating officer requested to keep him in jail until the investigation is completed, while his lawyer applied for bail. After listening to both sides, Magistrate Sharifur Rahman rejected his bail plea and ordered him to be sent to jail.
Earlier, on Wednesday (November 6), Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested Amu from the Dhanmondi area of the capital. The following day (November 7), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza granted a six-day remand for questioning in this case.
On July 19, during an anti-discrimination student movement, businessman Abdul Wadud was killed by police gunfire in the Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station. Following this incident, his brother-in-law Abdur Rob filed a murder case at the New Market Police Station, accusing a total of 130 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader, and others.
