In the Shrinagar area of Munshiganj, police have arrested the 23-year-old boyfriend, Touhid Sheikh Tanmoy, with a revolver in connection to the shooting death of 22-year-old Shahida Akter on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway. He was arrested from Ilsha, Bhola, on Sunday night. Tanmoy is the son of the late Shafiq Shah and Moyna Begum from the Wari area of Dhaka.
Based on his confession, the police recovered the revolver used in the crime from a pond in South Keraniganj, Dhaka, on Monday morning.
The officer-in-charge of the District Detective Branch (DB), Md. Ishtiaq Russel, confirmed this information. He stated that Tanmoy was attempting to flee to the Monpura Island in Bhola by boat from Sadarghat. The DB police are also working to recover the looted items of the young woman with the help of the arrested suspect. In initial questioning, Tanmoy admitted to the murder. He resides in the Wari area of Dhaka.
On Saturday morning, Shahida’s bullet-riddled body was found on the service lane of the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in the Dogachi area of Shrinagar. Later that night, the victim’s mother, Zarina Khatun, filed a murder case at the Shrinagar police station.
