The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal has sent a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) requesting action for issuing an Interpol Red Notice for the arrest of fugitive Awami League leaders, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
This letter was sent on Sunday, November 9, on behalf of Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam of the International Crimes Tribunal.
Earlier, on November 10, after inspecting the renovation of the old building of the International Crimes Tribunal, Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul had stated that the government is set to issue an Interpol Red Notice to bring back fugitives accused of genocide, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
During this time, the Adviser also mentioned that the government is not taking the allegations made by the Awami League to the International Criminal Court (ICC) seriously. He added that the ICC complaint was filed only to tarnish the government's reputation, and there is no reason for the complaint to be accepted.
On October 17, arrest warrants were issued by the International Crimes Tribunal against 46 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, in separate cases related to allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity that occurred in July and August.
Others against whom warrants have been issued include Sheikh Rehana, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Haque, Dipu Moni, A.K.M. Mozammel Haque, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Mohammad A.
