On her way to India, Susmita Panda, a leader of the Dhaka Eden College Chhatra League, was detained by immigration authorities at the Benapole border. She was accompanied by her younger brother, Satyajit Panda. Susmita is the daughter of Swapan Panda from Magura Sadar's Dhaka Road.

According to Ibrahim Ahmed, the Officer-in-Charge of the immigration police, Susmita, a resident of Magura Sadar, was questioned at the Benapole border on the afternoon of January 13. During the questioning, she confessed to being involved in a murder case in Dhaka's New Market area. She is a former organizational secretary of Eden College Chhatra League.
