On the Dhaka-Chattogram railway, a tragic accident in the Kalikapur area of Burichang Upazila, Cumilla, claimed the lives of five passengers in a battery-powered auto-rickshaw after being hit by a train. Three others were injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at Kalikapur rail crossing on Tuesday around 10:00 AM.
Burichang Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizul Haque stated that the Chattola Express train, coming from Chattogram, struck a passenger-carrying auto-rickshaw while crossing an illegal railway crossing in the Kalikapur area. Four passengers died on the spot, and another succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. Three injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Rafique Mia, Lutfa Begum, Sanu Mia, Safarjan Begum, and Saju Mia from Bakshimool village in Burichang Upazila.
