In a remote Himalayan region of Tibet, a powerful earthquake struck on Tuesday morning, resulting in 53 deaths and 62 injuries. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake, measuring 7.1 in magnitude, hit at 9:05 local time, followed by multiple aftershocks. According to AFP, citing Xinhua news agency, a reporter from the Tibet Autonomous Region's Earthquake Bureau stated that fatalities were reported in three townships: Changshuo Township, Kulou Township, and Dingri County's Kuoguo Township. The USGS seismic map indicated that the tremors were felt in neighboring Nepal and parts of northern India. Both the USGS and the China Earthquake Network Center confirmed that the epicenter was located in a remote Tibetan plateau near the Himalayan border with Nepal. China's state-run Xinhua news agency also reported that several houses in rural areas collapsed due to the earthquake.
