The All-European Awami League has strongly condemned and protested against the attempts to erase the history of the Bengali people's liberation struggle. The All-European Awami League has expressed strong condemnation and protest against the decision to abolish eight national days, including the historic 7th March and 15th August.
In a joint statement, All-European Awami League President M. Nazrul Islam and General Secretary Mujibur Rahman said, "We, like the pro-liberation people of the country, are shocked to see the decision to abolish the historic 7th March and 15th August, along with other national days, by the illegal government of evil forces. The collaborators of Pakistan in Bangladesh have destabilized the country through murder and terrorism and on August 5th forced the elected Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, to leave the country. After seizing power, they, following the master plan of the Pakistanis, first burned down the historic house at Dhanmondi 32, which was the cradle of the Bengali people's struggle for rights and independence. Across Dhaka and the country, they have vandalized, set fire to, and uprooted the statues, murals, and memorials of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as well as monuments of the liberation struggle. They have also vandalized and set fire to the central office of the Bangladesh Awami League and its branch offices across the country. Human rights violations, killings, and terrorism are rampant in the country. Hundreds of false cases are being filed against the Awami League president and party members."
They further added, "The Bengali people's liberation struggle was led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It is under his leadership that we achieved an independent and sovereign Bangladesh. Alongside him, providing courage and strength, were Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other family members. Their contributions cannot be erased. The historic 7th March speech and the March 17th Children’s Day have been recognized as part of the World Documentary Heritage by UNESCO. The 15th August is the greatest day of mourning for Bengalis. The significance of these days in our national history is immense.
We strongly condemn and protest the attempt to abolish these days. To the illegal government of the communal evil forces, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, we say, 'There is no precedent in the world of erasing history by pressing a reset button. Therefore, it is impossible to erase Bangladesh, Bangabandhu, and the national history of the Bengali people.'"
