Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus stated that the interim government is dedicated to implementing key labor reforms to elevate the country's labor laws to ILO standards.
"We have already taken some steps, and you will witness the changes very soon," Prof Yunus assured when leaders of Nirapon, an organization focused on enhancing worker safety in Bangladesh's factories, met him at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday.
Lutfey Siddiqi, the Chief Adviser's Special Envoy, highlighted that the interim government had signed an 18-point agreement with labor unions and manufacturers, fostering stability in the sector and boosting garment exports.
The meeting was led by Nirapon's chair Simone Sultana and independent director Tapan Chowdhury. Representatives of major Western brands and retailers were also present.
Simone Sultana expressed gratitude to the Chief Adviser for initiating reforms in the garment sector. She emphasized Nirapon's partnership with BRAC and Amader Kotha in developing innovative safety management tools for factories.
Brand representatives also acknowledged the progress made in factory safety.
