BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman marked his 60th birthday on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Born in Bogura in 1965, Tarique is the eldest son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
This year, no celebratory events were organized to commemorate the occasion, as per Tarique’s directives. A press release issued on November 11 instructed all BNP units and affiliated organizations across the country to refrain from holding any birthday-related programs. The statement also cautioned that disciplinary action would be taken against anyone who violated this directive.
Despite the lack of public celebrations, Khaleda Zia conveyed her birthday wishes to her son. “Madam speaks with Tarique every night, and she wished him a happy birthday last night,” said one of her personal physicians. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with other senior leaders, also extended their greetings to Tarique, with some confirming they sent their messages via SMS.
Tarique Rahman currently resides in exile in London with his wife, Zubaida Rahman, and their daughter, Zaima Rahman
