Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dr. Hasan Mahmud said his party is ready to work together with BNP if needed to restore democracy. "I agree with many of the statements made by BNP Acting Chairman Mr. Tariq Rahman or BNP Secretary General Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir," he said in UK-based Channel S's 'Opinion' program.

 In his first official speech after the fall of the government, Hasan Mahmud admitted, "It was our political failure not to accommodate the BNP in the 2014 and 2024 elections. Although they tried to thwart us, it was our failure."

 Regarding the current silence of the Awami League, he said, "We are deliberately silent, so that we are not blamed." He said to the party's leaders and workers, "The torture and oppression of the leaders and workers today... I will tell them that this darkness will pass and soon a fair and normal environment will return to the country."
