The meeting with the BNP was part of a routine dialogue with political parties, said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, on October 23.
they are engaging with political parties to discuss current issues. We’ve held several meetings with different political groups and plan to continue in the coming days," he stated after the meeting between Chief Adviser Prof. Yunus and three BNP Standing Committee members: Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed, held at the state guest house, Jamuna.
When asked about the demand for President Mohammed Shahabuddin's resignation, Shafiqul responded, "The government aligns with what the law adviser said. If there are any developments, we will inform the public."
Yesterday, the interim government echoed Law Adviser Asif Nazrul’s statement that President Shahabuddin lied about not receiving the resignation letter of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir, the government agrees that by making such a false statement, the president violated his oath.
Law, Justice, and Parliament Adviser Asif Nazrul had earlier remarked, "The president's claim that he didn’t receive Sheikh Hasina's resignation letter is untrue and constitutes a breach of his oath."
In response to questions about whether this is the law adviser’s personal opinion or represents the advisory council's view, including that of the chief adviser, Shafiqul reiterated, "The government stands by the law adviser's statement."
Previously, President Mohammed Shahabuddin claimed he had no documentary evidence of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, after she fled to India on August 5 following a student-led uprising.
"I’ve heard she resigned, but I have no official documentation. Despite thorough efforts, I couldn’t locate it," he told Manab Zamin’s Chief Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury during a conversation about the resignation letter.
"Perhaps she didn’t have enough time," Shahabuddin speculated, according to an article published in Manab Zamin’s political magazine Janatar Chokh on October 20.
