Recently, a claim was circulated on social media in the form of a photo card, where Sarjes Alam, the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, was alleged to have said, “If Ilias were made an advisor, no one would have the opportunity to act as a broker.” However, Rumor Scanner has revealed that this claim is completely false and baseless.
According to an investigation by the Rumor Scanner team, no such comment, “If Ilias were made an advisor, no one would have the opportunity to act as a broker,” has been made by Sarjes Alam. In fact, this claim has been circulated without any reliable evidence. Upon examining the posts that spread this claim, there was no mention of any credible evidence. Furthermore, the photo card in which this claim was promoted did not contain any media logos or names. Typically, when a media outlet publishes a photo card, it includes the name or logo of the outlet. However, no such media name or logo was present in the photo card in question, indicating that it was not published by any media outlet.
Further investigation with relevant keyword searches also found no evidence or credible sources to support the claim.
Sarjes Alam frequently shares information and opinions through his Facebook account. However, upon reviewing his account, no posts were found to support the mentioned claim.
Regarding the new advisor, Sarjes Alam had criticized the appointment of filmmaker Mustafa Sarwar Farooki as an advisor to the interim government on November 16. He stated, "Farooki has done everything necessary to stay close to power. We don't want to see people who remain silent and try to avoid conflict in such tough times as advisors." However, he was not seen commenting on making Ilias an advisor in that context.
Additionally, in a Facebook post on December 26, Sarjes Alam urged the three young advisors of the interim government—Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Mahfuz Alam—to take a revolutionary stance. However, there was no mention of Ilias Hossain in that post.
