In a temple in India, devotees have gathered to drink water dripping from the mouth of an elephant sculpture. They believe this water to be ‘charanamrit,’ or holy water from Lord Krishna’s feet. However, in reality, the water is coming from the temple’s air conditioning unit. This incident has gone viral on social media, and various Indian media outlets have reported on it.
According to The Economic Times, devotees at Banke Bihari Temple are drinking water from the AC, mistaking it for ‘charanamrit.’ Anandabazar and other media outlets report that this incident took place at Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan, Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. Recently, this video has spread widely on social media.
Indian news reports indicate that devotees at this famous temple in Vrindavan are gathering around the elephant sculpture to collect drops of water, which they believe to be ‘charanamrit.’ In the viral footage, many devotees can be seen drinking the water from the elephant sculpture on the wall, with some collecting it in cups and others sipping it from their palms and sprinkling it on their heads.
An Anandabazar report mentions that this water actually originates from an elephant-shaped tube on the temple wall, which is connected to the AC unit. However, devotees mistakenly believe it to be ‘charanamrit.’
