The highest court of the country has granted Nobel laureate and interim government chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus permission to appeal against the dismissal of his petition challenging the validity of charges in the case regarding the embezzlement of profits from Grameen Telecom employees. The order was issued by the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaet Ahmed, on Monday. The hearing for the appeal has been scheduled for November 19.
Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun represented Dr. Yunus in court, while Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman appeared for the state. Previously, on July 24, the High Court dismissed Dr. Yunus's petition challenging the validity of the charges in the case involving the embezzlement of profits from Grameen Telecom employees. Additionally, the court directed the trial court to resolve the case within one year.
This directive was issued by the High Court bench consisting of Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ibadat Hossain. Following this, Dr. Yunus filed an appeal against the High Court's order with the Appellate Division.
Dr. Yunus had earlier petitioned the High Court to challenge the validity of charges in the case regarding the embezzlement of profits from Grameen Telecom employees, requesting the cancellation of the charge framing order.
