Thousands of supporters have taken to the streets in response to a protest call by Pakistan's former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan. However, the government and authorities have implemented strict measures to suppress the demonstrations, leading to repeated clashes between protesters and security forces, causing unrest across the country.
According to a report by Qatar-based news outlet *Al Jazeera*, nearly 4,000 people, including five PTI members of parliament, have been arrested so far. One police officer has been killed in the clashes.
*Geo News* reported that some miscreants drove a vehicle into members of the paramilitary Rangers, resulting in the deaths of four Rangers personnel. Additionally, five Rangers members and two police officers were injured in the incident.
The *Al Jazeera* report further stated that PTI activists and leaders had reached the outskirts of Islamabad on Monday in a convoy, demanding Imran Khan’s release and the government’s resignation. Clashes erupted there with law enforcement agencies. To control the situation, Islamabad’s entry points were sealed a day prior, and Section 144 was imposed in the city for two months. Similarly, Punjab has implemented Section 144 for three days.
There have also been reports of mobile and internet services being disrupted in several areas.
Provincial Police Chief Usman Anwar stated that one police officer was shot and killed, while 119 others were injured during the clashes. Additionally, 22 police vehicles were set on fire. Among the injured officers, the condition of two is critical. Meanwhile, PTI claims that many of their activists have also been injured due to police actions.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned in a press conference that anyone attempting to enter Islamabad’s “Red Zone” would be arrested. The area has been declared off-limits to protect government buildings.
