At least 25 people were killed and many injured in a bomb blast at the Quetta railway station in Pakistan's Balochistan province. The blast took place on Saturday morning before a train left for Peshawar. The suicide attack is believed to have been carried out by a separatist armed group called the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which has been demanding independence and control over local resources, officials said.
The Quetta City Commissioner confirmed the death toll, including that of the suicide bomber. He said the dead and injured included both civilian and military personnel. Senior police officer Mohammad Baloch said that the suicide bomber was believed to have had about 6-8 kg of explosives. Videos shared on social media showed the moment of the blast and its aftermath, with injured people and debris scattered around the station.
The BLA claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it targeted a Pakistani military unit. Balochistan's chief minister termed the incident "heinous", while National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq condemned the attack as an attack on humanity. Balochistan, rich in natural resources but underdeveloped, has been the victim of separatist violence in recent months.
