To properly care for your hair, it’s essential to first understand your scalp type and tailor your routine accordingly. According to a Shovan Makeover expert, “Just as facial skin types vary, scalp types also differ, such as normal, dry, and oily. So, before starting your care routine, make sure to identify your scalp type well.”


Normal Scalp: A normal scalp has less active sebaceous glands, so it doesn’t become overly oily. However, it may experience mild dandruff and dryness.


Oily Scalp: This type of scalp tends to have more dandruff issues. Due to excessive oil secretion, dirt builds up easily and clogs the pores, resulting in greasy, limp hair.


Dry Scalp: Dry scalps are more prone to itching, with dryness being the primary concern.


Once you understand your scalp type, caring for it becomes easier. Experts suggest that since exposure to outdoor pollutants is often unavoidable, dust and grime accumulate on the hair and scalp. Thus, cleaning your scalp well is crucial. Shampoo your scalp thoroughly three times a week, and a mild shampoo is usually more effective. You can also choose any shampoo that suits your hair type.


Dead skin cells often accumulate on the scalp, blocking hair growth and increasing dirt buildup, which can lead to hair fall and reduced density. To maintain scalp health, exfoliate regularly. Combing daily also benefits the scalp. You may use an exfoliating shampoo once a week or one with salicylic acid. A scrub made from equal parts brown sugar, oats, and hair conditioner can also work well.
